Fireworks Amnesty Program Underway in Prince George's

Residents have until July 20th to turn in illegal fireworks.

County residents have until July 20 to turn in illegal fireworks without risk of arrest or fines, fire officials announced this week.

Under the amnesty program, a fire official will come to homes or businesses and remove the fireworks. If you're interested, call the County’s Fire/Emergency Medical Services Department Operations Center at 301-583-2200. Residents may also use this number to number to report the illegal use of fireworks in the county.

Consumer fireworks are illegal under county law, unless they are operated by a licensed professional pyrotechnic using an authorized display. Those who violate the law face fines of up to $1,000 and/or six months in jail, according to the county fire department.
