Mitchellville Man Appointed to State Pension Panel

Rob Hagans, Executive Vice President of AARP Maryland, is the 'perfect choice' for the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System.

Rob Hagans, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of AARP Maryland, was recently appointed to the state Retirement and Pension System, according to an AARP press release.

Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) announced Hagans’ appointment on Nov. 21. Hagans, who lives in Mitchellville, replaces Robert Schaefer on the pension panel.

“His steadfast belief in fiscal stewardship and years of expertise in financial management will serve us well as we work together to develop a more sustainable and effective system for all state employees,” O’Malley said in a statement.

In July 2001, Hagans joined AARP as its CFO. Prior to that job, he worked as Prince George’s County’s finance director. Hagans was also the chairman of the county’s Risk and Management Committee and a trustee on the county’s Police and Fire Service Pension Plan panel.

“What a perfect choice,” said AARP Maryland State Director Hank Greenberg in a statement. “Rob Hagans is a Maryland resident with the unique experience to serve the state well in this post.”
