Photos: Volunteers Clean Up Forest Heights Creek
The town of Forest Heights held an litter cleanup in honor of Earth Day this past weekend.
Volunteers gathered at Oxon Creek behind Eastover Shopping Center this past weekend to take part in an Earth Day trash cleanup. Mimi Liu, communicatons specialist for tht town of Forest Heights, which organized the cleanup, was on hand to document the event, returning with this series of photographs which she uploaded to the Upper Marlboro Patch community photo gallery.
The event drew about 25 volunteers. According to Liu, the creek is frequently contaminated by trash and other debris washed downstream by runoff.
"We find all kinds of trash in there," said Liu in an interview. "Part of the idea is to get the youths out there and some of the older folks, too, to see where some of their trash goes."
