Police Officers Under Investigation After Drowning Incident

Lanham resident Kevin Sehinde Akinfeleye died at a house party in Upper Marlboro.

Several Prince George's County police officers are being investigated after Lanham resident Kevin Sehinde Akinfeleye drowned yesterday during a house party in Upper Marlboro, police announced. The officers were working security at the party, and the emergency call wasn't made until 20 minutes after Akinfeleye was last seen in the pool.

Police Chief Mark Magaw ordered the investigation into the officers' actions. A preliminary review indicates no relationship between the actions of the responding police and fire personnel and the drowning.

At about 1:37 a.m. Sunday, county police and fire officials responded to the 4200 block of Crain Highway for a possible drowning at the house party. Akinfeleye, 22, was transported to Southern Maryland Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.
