UPPER MARLBORO, MD -- Despite initial reports of a shooting near Patuxent Elementary School in Upper Marlboro on Friday, it turned out to be a false alarm -- although a person is in custody as a result.

Police responded to the school late Friday afternoon to a report of a shooting after they received a call from the school saying that an individual had walked into the building and made "threatening statements and was acting strangely," according to a police spokeswoman.

Staff called 911, and initially it was treated as an active shooter. But police later said that there were no injuries, no evidence of gunshots, and no indication that there was even a weapon.
