Special Election Will Be Held to Fill Leslie Johnson's Seat

Beginning Wednesday, District 6 residents can file for candidacy.

The County Council agreed Tuesday to hold a special primary and special general election to fill the seat vacated by Leslie E. Johnson, who resigned shortly .

The primary is scheduled for September 20 and the general election is scheduled for October 18. The polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. for each election.

Individuals may file certificates of candidacy with the Prince George’s County Board of Elections at 16201 Trade Zone Avenue, Suite 108, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774 beginning August 3. The deadline to file for the primary is 9 p.m., Aug. 23.

The voter registration deadline for residents who live in Council District 6, and wish to vote in the primary is 9 p.m., Aug. 30. In order to register to vote in the county, you must be a U.S. citizen and live in Prince George’s County.

Voter registration applications and absentee ballot applications can be obtained by calling the Board of Elections at 301-430-8020. Applications can also be downloaded at http://www.princegeorgescountymd.gov/elections.
