U. Marlboro Marine Honored For Volunteer Efforts

Lt. Col. Ahmed Williamson's Marine battalion recognized for service to the community.

Lt. Col. Ahmed Williamson, the commanding officer of 9th Communication Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force, recently accepted the Small Unit Volunteer of the Year award recognizing his battalion for extraordinary community service efforts in Camp Pendleton, Calif., where his unit is based, according to a DVIDSHUB.net report.

“It’s part of our commitment to serve,” Williamson told DVIDS. “A part of being a good citizen-warrior is that we understand and appreciate the environment and communities we’re in and have the commitment to invest in it.”

The award recognizes Williamson's unit for giving more than 3,200 hours of community service last year at a local YMCA, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and other community outreach efforts.
