Upper Marlboro Man Shot By State Trooper

Michael W. King, of the 9200 block of Goldenrod Lane, charged police with a knife, according to a press release.

An Upper Marlboro man was shot Wednesday morning, after he allegedly charged a Maryland State Trooper with a knife. The trooper, along with eight members of a federal warrant task force, were at the man’s home to serve a warrant for drug distribution.

At about 8:30 a.m., the officers arrived at Michael W. King’s home, along the 9200 block of Goldenrod Lane in Upper Marlboro, to serve the warrant. According to a Maryland State Police press release, the officers knocked on the door repeatedly and announced themselves.

After knocking for 45 minutes, police determined that King’s car was in his driveway and that King was inside the home. That’s when state police officers entered King’s home through a front window and continued to announce themselves.

As police searched for King, he apparently came from behind a wall with a knife and ran toward the officers. That’s when State Trooper Wesley Jefferson, a four-year veteran of the police force, shot King in the head and torso, according to the press release.

King was taken to the Prince George’s Hospital Center, where he is under police guard. Jefferson has been placed on administrative leave. The investigation is ongoing.
