Voter Turnout Low in Upper Marlboro Election
Fifty-three people voted this year, a slight increase from the 2010 election.

Apparently, the snow did not deter Upper Marlboro town residents from going to the polls. Or did it?
As of 7:30 p.m. Monday, 53 people cast their votes in the , an increase from the 38 people who voted in 2010, town clerk M. David Williams wrote in an email to Patch. Still, that's just a small fraction of the town's population of 631 residents.
While commissioners Stephen F. Sonnett, Joseph A. Hourcle and James Storey ran unopposed this year, they still wanted a strong turnout. As the commissioners saw it, a strong turnout meant residents cared about local politics, and that interest could stop the county from demolishing the Old Marlboro Elementary School.
