With Today's Election, A New Beginning
Voters will elect a replacement for Leslie E. Johnson, who resigned the position this summer.

Today, residents of the sixth district will elect a new County Council member to represent them. Two months ago, Leslie E. Johnson resigned the position after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit evidence and witness tampering.
Even after the guilty plea in U.S. District Court, Johnson vowed to remain on the council. She will be sentenced at 9:30 a.m., Oct. 13.
Nonetheless, , which represents Upper Marlboro, Mitchellville, Largo, Bowie, Capitol Heights, and Seat Pleasant. For residents, today's election is an opportunity to begin anew, even if voter interest has been low to this point.

You can go to and vote. The top two votegetters will move on to the October primary, and the winner of that election will be the new District 6 County Council member.
