Carroll, Baltimore Counties Under Severe Thunderstorm Warning

A storm with 60 mph wind gusts and hail the size of quarters was spotted in Carroll County, the National Weather Service warns.

Radar detected a severe thunderstorm over Westminster at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 22, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a severe thunderstorm warning. There were 60 mph wind gusts and hail the size of quarters with the storm, officials warned.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 3 p.m. for parts of northeastern Carroll and northwestern Baltimore counties.

During the severe thunderstorm warning period, people should go inside to stay safe from wind and lightning. Do not drive underneath wooded areas until the threat has passed, as trees and branches may fall. Roads may become blocked by downed trees, and localized power outages are possible, according to the warning.

To stay safe, people should move inside to an interior room on the lowest floor.

These areas may be impacted, according to the warning: Westminster, Hampstead, Manchester, New Windsor, Carrollton, Freeland, Lineboro, Bentley Springs, Uniontown, Parkton, Wagners
Mill, Hereford, Millers, Greenmount and Maryland Line.
