Carroll County Forestry Board Presents 'Reforesting Your Neighborhood'

On Jan. 16, the Carroll County Forestry Board is offering "Reforesting Your Neighborhood" program. Cost includes lunch and materials.

The Old Line State was once covered by Eastern Deciduous Forest, one of the most biologically diverse biomes. As time went by, the forests were clear cut, human population grew, and Maryland experienced habitat fragmentation. This resulted in the dwindling of important plants and animals.

Today, many Marylanders have fewer than ten acres of woodlands on their properties. No matter the size of your lot, be it in the town or the country, forest stewardship cultivates healthy landscapes for our children and clean water for all. ”Reforesting Your Neighborhood” presented by the Carroll County Forestry Board http://bit.ly/1NsymFH is a full day, fee-based workshop offering six sessions taught by professionals to help you learn ways in which to reforest your neighborhood. Gain insight into approaches to engage with conservation landscaping, designing woodland gardens, identifying native plants, understanding woodland botanicals, monitoring and management of weeds and researching cost-share regional programs. The Carroll County Forestry Board is a non-profit volunteer group providing forest stewardship, conservation, and tree care information and education to schools and citizens.

To learn more about residential wooded ecosystems and sustainable landscaping principals, attend the workshop on Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 8:00am to 4:30pm at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 467 in Westminster. The cost for an individual is $50, for couples $75, and students $15. Seats are limited. On-line registration is now open on Eventbrite via the University of Maryland Extension website at https://extension.umd.edu/events/sat-2016-01-16-0800-reforesting-your-ne... or by mail by contacting 410.848.9290. Contact the Carroll County Forestry Board directly at ccforestryboard@gmail.com to inquire about continuing education credits. The deadline is Monday, January 4, 2016.
