Carroll County State's Attorney Reportedly Committed Suicide

Jerry Barnes was found with a gunshot wound in Westminster home, according to the Associated Press.

The Carroll County State’s Attorney—Jerry Barnes, 66—died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a Westminster home Saturday morning, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office told the Associated Press.

Barnes has been the state’s attorney for Carroll County since 1995, according to Maryland records.

He attended Westminster High School before joining the U.S. Army, where he earned two bronze stars as a green beret, according to his biography. He continued on to receive his law degree from the University of Baltimore.

After he was found at approximately 10:30 a.m. in Westminster, Barnes was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Associated Press.
