E-Cigarette Caused House Fire In Carroll County: Fire Marshal

The fire caused $150,000 in damage and displaced the people who lived there, according to the fire marshal.

WESTMINSTER, MD — Officials say an electronic cigarette caused a house fire in Carroll County over the weekend that displaced a family and caused $150,000 in damage. The fire broke out around 6 p.m. on Friday, May 11, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

One of the residents notified authorities after discovering the blaze in a bedroom at the home in the 4300 block of Turkeyfoot Road, officials reported. The fire marshal said that about 40 firefighters from Pleasant Valley Community Fire Company brought the one-alarm fire under control in approximately 30 minutes.

The cause was deemed accidental, attributed to an e-cigarette.

There was $100,000 in structural damage and $50,000 worth of items inside the home were lost, the fire marshal said.

The residents, who have been displaced, are receiving assistance from the Red Cross, according to authorities.
