Gerstell Academy Students Harvest Vegetables, Donate to Local Food Bank

Gerstell Academy students are making a difference in the community.

Gerstell Academy Upper School students and faculty recently traveled to First Fruits Farm in Freeland, Md to harvest tomatoes and potatoes to share with local food banks.

Students harvest 2,000 pounds of tomatoes and over 22,000 pounds of potatoes during their 8 hours in the field.

"I think it is great because we are giving back to the community, and bonding with our new classmates as well as our friends and faculty," Gerstell Senior and student body President Casey Gruber said in a statement. "We are living the mission of the school and demonstrating leadership to the community."

Rick Bernstein, owner of First Fruits Farm said he welcomed the students and faculty and appreciated their volunteer spirit.
