Maryland Dept. of Commerce Launches Workforce Training Initiative

This initiative partners the state's 16 community colleges including Carroll Community College.

From Carroll Community College: The Maryland Department of Commerce has joined with the Maryland Association of Community Colleges to launch a training network that partners the state’s 16 community colleges with local employers to build customized workforce training and assess future training needs.

“Maryland Work Smart will help businesses close skill gaps in their industries and enable our community colleges to better prepare for the workforce training needs of the future,” said Governor Larry Hogan in a press release from the Maryland Department of Commerce.

“Community Colleges are proud of our ability to support the existing and emerging needs of our business communities and help to grow an economy that can provide sustainable careers,” said Dr. Bernard Sadusky, executive director of the Maryland Association of Community Colleges.

In support of the Maryland Work Smart Initiative, Carroll Community College serves local employers through Advantage C, a single source of customized training services to help businesses grow, respond to challenges and change in ways that sharpen their competitive edge. Specializing in training, consultation, facilitation, and assessment, Advantage C offers convenient, affordable solutions to local businesses.

Advantage C clients have access to a professional network of local, national and international experts and industry leaders. In addition,Advantage C offers business development and networking events throughout the year that help business professionals get ahead.

“Carroll Community College is proud to provide Advantage C to help businesses build their employees’ skills and competencies”, said Karen Merkle, vice president for Continuing Education and Training. “The college offers highly-relevant corporate services, developed from best practices in training and development. The sixteen community colleges in the state work individually to support businesses in their local communities, and collectively, we all work together to ensure that businesses have every possible advantage to succeed and to grow in Maryland.”

“Our Advantage C team works closely with each client, gaining an understanding of their unique challenges and then recommends and implements customized solutions,” added Libby Trostle, senior director of Corporate Services and Workforce Development for Advantage C.
