According to Stick, establishing early exercise habits is essential to disease management. A study by the Parkinson’s Outcomes Project, for example, found those who start exercising earlier and a minimum of 2.5 hours a week experience a slowed decline in quality of life compared to those who start later.

As a continuing care retirement community, Carroll Lutheran Village offers independent living, assisted living, short- and long-term rehabilitation and memory care. In addition to Parkinson’s movement classes, those living at Carroll Lutheran Village also have access to BIG & LOUD, a therapy program designed to help patients with Parkinson’s improve function and slow motor deterioration by retraining sensory, motor and cognitive functions through intensive exercise and patient empowerment.
