Report: Carroll County No. 2 in MD for ‘Excessive Drinkers’

Carroll County ranked second among counties in Maryland for the percentage of people who reported being “excessive drinkers,” according to a report from WBAL.com.
A total of 19 percent of Carroll County residents reported being “excessive drinkers,” which means “consuming more than four (women) or five (men) alcoholic beverages on a single occasion in the past 30 days or heavy drinking, defined as drinking more than one (women) or two (men) drinks per day,” WBAL reported.

A recent report by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation on county health rankings placed Carroll County as the fifth healthiest county in Maryland.
Carroll County’s 19 percent reporting rate on excessive drinking compared to 15 percent in Maryland, according to the Foundation.

Underage drinking has also been a concern in Carroll County.
“Underage drinking, binge drinking and alcohol-related crashes are a problem in this county,” Maryland Strategic Prevention Framework Coordinator Carol Mullen told Westminster Patch last year.
