Snow Squall Warning Issued For Carroll County
BREAKING: Drivers should stay off highways if they are in the midst of a snow squall, according to the warning.

CARROLL COUNTY, MD — The National Weather Service has issued a snow squall warning for northwestern Carroll County as well as Frederick, Washington and Montgomery counties. The snow squall warning is in effect until 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30.
At 11:13 a.m., officials said that a dangerous snow squall was moving east at 20 mph through west central Maryland, the easternmost part of West Virginia and northwestern Virginia.
Whiteout conditions are possible due to heavy snow blowing at 30 mph.

The warning states that travel is dangerous and can be life-threatening during a snow squall.
"There is no safe place on a highway when a snow squall hits," the snow squall warning says. "Visibility and traction are immediately lost in whiteout conditions, making it difficult or impossible to slow down and avoid stopped vehicles. Delay travel or safely exit the highway before the snow squall arrives."

Drivers should be especially cautious on Interstate 70, I-81, US 15 and other high-speed highways. Officials said that pavement temperatures are expected to drop rapidly, and the road may become icy with just a small amount of snow.
