Weather Decision From Carroll County Public Schools For Tuesday

There is a change of plans for Carroll County Public Schools Tuesday.

CARROLL COUNTY, MD — Due to inclement weather, schools will be closed in Carroll County on Tuesday, Feb. 12. This is an update to a previous decision to delay opening.

Although schools will be closed, Carroll County Public Schools announced Tuesday morning that school offices will open at 10 a.m. That includes the central office.

Employees are on code yellow.

Under code yellow, schools are closed but school offices remain open; liberal leave is in effect for 12-month employees; and emergency personnel should report. Employees who are 10 and 11-month workers should not report.

Carroll County is under a winter storm warning until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

PREVIOUS REPORT (EXPIRED as of 6:55 a.m. Tuesday) — Public schools will open two hours late on Tuesday, Feb. 12, according to Carroll County Public Schools. Officials made the announcement Monday night, after school was closed on Monday.

There will be a reevaluation Tuesday morning, with an official decision issued by 7:15 a.m.

Employees are on code blue Tuesday, according to Carroll County Public Schools.

School officials cited inclement weather in making the decision to delay opening Tuesday.

Carroll, Baltimore, Frederick, Harford and Washington counties are under a winter storm warning until 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

The National Weather Service issues a winter storm warning when significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice could make travel impossible or extremely dangerous.

Including snow that fell since Sunday night, the warning calls for 3 to 7 inches of accumulation of snow and sleet. Freezing rain accumulations of 0.1 to 0.25 inch are expected through Tuesday morning as well.

Isolated totals of up to 9 inches may occur in northern Baltimore and northwestern Harford counties, near the Pennsylvania border.

Power outages are expected due to the weight of snow, sleet and freezing rain.

Travel may be very treacherous, particularly north of I-70 near the Pennsylvania border, according to the winter storm warning.

Here are the snow totals so far in Carroll County for Monday, Feb. 11, based on preliminary reports to the National Weather Service from trained weather spotters:

  • 4 inches in Taneytown as of 3:52 p.m.
  • 3.6 inches in Manchester at 5:34 p.m.
  • 3.2 inches in Manchester at 3:39 p.m.
  • 3 inches in Westminster at 3:30 p.m.
