Westminster Native Chosen for Leadership Role in Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets

Christopher von Guten graduated from Westminster High School in 2010.

Westminster native Christopher von Gunten, a senior majoring in mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech, is serving as the Armorer in the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets for fall semester 2013.

The Corps of Cadets is a 24-hour-per-day, seven-days-per-week leadership laboratory, according to the Virginia Tech website. Cadets study leadership, learn from experts, and practice what they have been taught while leading the over 1,000-member Corps of Cadets.

von Gunten is one of 1,071 cadets in the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, one of the nation’s six senior military colleges, according to a Virginia Tech news release.

The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets has been producing military and corporate leaders since the university was founded in 1872. It is one of just two remaining military corps within a large, primarily civilian university.

von Gunten graduated from Westminster High School in 2010.
