Car Hits, Kills Man Walking In Wheaton: Police

A driver hit and killed a man who was crossing a busy road in Wheaton Saturday night, police said.

WHEATON, MD — A man was fatally hit by a car while crossing the road in Wheaton Saturday night, according to a statement from the Montgomery County Police Department.

The accident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Georgia Avenue at Veirs Mill Road.

Police said the unidentified man was hit by a 2016 Nissan Rogue that was traveling south on Georgia Avenue. The driver remained on the scene.

The man was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision, police said. He was declared dead at the scene.

Detectives are working to confirm the victim's identity and will release his name once family is notified, police said.
