Car Plows Into Teens In Aspen Hill: Police

The four high school students were waiting Tuesday morning for a school bus on Georgia Avenue when a car struck them, says media report.

UPDATE — The Montgomery County police on Tuesday afternoon released the names of the two drivers involved in a collision in Aspen Hill that sent a car crashing into a group of teenagers on a sidewalk. The four teens, who attend John F. Kennedy High School in Glenmont, were waiting at a school bus stop in the 13600 block of Georgia Avenue (Route 97) during Tuesday morning's rush hour.

The driver of the car that hit the teens, identified as Henri Josue Guevara Chicas, 21, of Galvez Street in Silver Spring, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was driving a white 2014 Volkswagen Jetta, the police said in a statement.

The other driver, Saihou Bunama Bojang, 25, of Featherwood Court in Silver Spring, was not injured. A 25-year-old passenger in Bojang's car, a blue 2007 Ford Five Hundred, also was uninjured, the police said.

All four Kennedy High School students were taken to a local hospital for treatment, the police said. Since they're juveniles, their names were not released.

They include a 15-year-old boy, who was being treated for life-threatening injuries, and three girls — two 14-year-olds and one 15-year-old — who were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A police investigation found that shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday, the Ford had exited a gas station at 13615 Georgia Ave. and traveled north on Georgia Avenue (see map below).

The Jetta also was northbound on Georgia Avenue. "For reasons still under investigation, the two vehicles collided and the Volkswagen then left the roadway," the police said.

Anyone with information on Tuesday morning's collision is asked to call the Police Department's Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.

UPDATE 1:20 p.m. — The Montgomery County police have reopened the northbound lanes of Georgia Avenue (Route 97) between Hewitt Avenue and Aspen Hill Road, WTOP reported. The police have completed their investigation of Tuesday morning's accident.

ASPEN HILL, MD — Four high school students were injured Tuesday morning when a car careened off Georgia Avenue (Route 97) and struck them, according to a media report. The four teens, who attend John F. Kennedty High School in Glenmont, were taken to a local hospital for treatment, along with the 21-year-old driver of the white Volkswagen, radio station WTOP reported.

One teen sustained life-threatening injuries, the Montgomery County police said. The four teens, who range in age from 14 to 15, were waiting for a school bus when the collision occurred at about 7 a.m., WTOP reported.

The VW was moving northbound on Georgia Avenue in Aspen Hill when it collided with a blue Ford, "sending the Volkswagen onto the sidewalk and into the group of students," WTOP reported.

Police officers interviewed the 25-year-old man who drove the Ford, WTOP reported. The police also closed the northbound lanes of Georgia Avenue between Hewitt Avenue and Ralph Road on Tuesday to investigate the accident.
