Christmas Snow Suddenly Possible In Wheaton
The forecast has shifted dramatically lately, and a cold snap on Christmas Day could lead to snowflakes.

WHEATON, MD — Recent forecasts had suggested lots of warmth leading up to and including Christmas, with snow entering the picture just afterward, but the latest forecast has suddenly shifted.
New models now show a cold front will move through the D.C. area by Christmas, according to a report from the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang.
That doesn't necessarily mean we'll see snowflakes, as that is dependent on whether (and when) we'll have precipitation, but the odds of that happening have certainly increased.

There's a possibility that a storm system will come with an Arctic front headed our way, with precipitation starting as rain on Christmas Eve before turning into snow on Christmas Day. The question is how deep the cold air will be, and if the precipitation will stick around long enough for there to be snowflakes, according to the report.
The forecasters estimate our odds of an inch of snow in the D.C. area are about 15 percent on Christmas Day, slightly above the historical average of 10 percent. That could change in the coming days, so stay tuned.
