The 15th Anniversary National Book Festival, brought to you by The Library of Congress and Honorary Chairs President Obama and Mrs. Obama.

On Saturday, September 5, 2015 celebrate the 15th Anniversary National Book Festival, brought to you by The Library of Congress and Honorary Chairs President Obama and Mrs. Obama. The Library of Congress National Book Festival is an annual literary event that brings together best-selling authors and thousands of book fans for author talks, panel discussions, book signings and other activities. This year’s event will bring together almost 200 authors under one roof at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
To mark this special occasion, as well as the 200th anniversary of the Library’s acquisition of Thomas Jefferson’s personal library, the festival’s theme is Jefferson’s quote, “I Cannot Live Without Books.”

- Melting Pot America: Ray Suarez, author of “Latino Americans,” will moderate a program that celebrates the many ethnicities that make up the American experience. University of Minnesota scholar Erika Lee will speak about the forging of Asian America, and Tom Gjeltenwill discuss his “A Nation of Nations,” which describes the history of immigration in this country and the government act, 50 years ago, that made it a legal reality of American life.
- Books to Movies Program: A fascinating look into the intersection of books and film with A. Scott Berg, winner of both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, Ann Hornaday, Washington post film critic and others.
- Romance Fiction Pavilion: For the first time, the National Book Festival will have a pavilion devoted exclusively to romance novels.
- Reading Latin America: The Role of Time in a Writer’s Life and Work: Four diverse authors from Chile and Mexico talk about how they deal with time in every sense of the word: in creating fictional characters, in shaping a plot, in making an argument, and in the actual writing of a book.
