MetroBus Adds New Services To Montgomery County

The MetroBus will modify routes around the Wheaton Metrorail Station beginning Sunday, officials said.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — The MetroBus will modify routes around the Wheaton Metrorail Station beginning Sunday, Dec. 17, officials said.

Metro is adding service changes to 35 routes around D.C., Virginia and Maryland to improve on-time performance.

The service changes include adding new service to The Wharf in D.C., adding trips to the Pentagon and modifying routes around the Wheaton Metrorail Station in Maryland.

These changes begin in Maryland on Dec. 17:

  • C2, C4 Greenbelt-Twinbrook: Eastbound buses departing Wheaton Metrorail Station will operate via Veirs Mill Road to access University Boulevard due to the upcoming closure of Reedie Drive. Eastbound service on Reedie Drive and Amherst Avenue will be eliminated.
  • C8 College Park-White Flint: The timetable will be revised to improve on-time performance.
  • 89, 89M Laurel: The timetable will be revised to improve on-time performance.
  • J2, J3 Bethesda-Silver Spring: In Bethesda, the westbound morning rush hour detour on Battery Lane between Wisconsin Avenue and Woodmont Avenue will become the permanent routing.
  • K12 Forestville: Trips toward Suitland Metrorail Station will no longer serve Morris Avenue or Maxwell Drive. Buses will remain on southbound Auth Road to utilize the traffic signal for safer access to eastbound Allentown Road. An alternative stop is located at Auth Road & Magruder Avenue.
  • R4 Queens Chapel Road: The timetable will be revised to improve on-time performance.
  • Y2, Y7, Y8 Georgia Avenue-Maryland: Northbound buses departing Wheaton Metrorail Station will operate via Veirs Mill Road, University Boulevard, Grandview Avenue, and Blueridge Avenue to access Georgia Avenue due to the upcoming closure of Reedie Drive. Northbound service on Reedie Drive, and Georgia Avenue between Reedie Drive and Blueridge Avenue will be eliminated. The timetable will be revised to reflect additional travel time.

  • Pentagon: Additional trips on routes 18P and 21D, funded by the I-395 Express Lanes Transportation Management Program, will serve the Pentagon Transit Center.
  • 52, 53, 54 14th Street: Route 52 will be extended to 12th Street and Maine Avenue SW to serve L'Enfant Plaza Metrorail Station via The Wharf.
  • 59 14th Street Limited: Effective Monday, Jan. 8, new MetroExtra limited-stop service will operate along 14th Street NW between the Takoma and Federal Triangle Metrorail stations every 15 minutes during weekday rush hours, 6:30-9:30 a.m. and 3:45-7 p.m.
