Report: Montgomery County Board of Education Approves New Set of District-Wide Benchmarks

A district-wide benchmark system with a more holistic approach to achievement that places more of the responsibility on schools was approved by the Montgomery County Board of Education Monday, June 24. 

"Five District Milestones" will replace "Seven Keys to College Readiness," The Washington Post reports. The new plan is similar, but it also takes into account things like student engagement and well-being beginning in fifth grade. Reading and math comprehension are also tested at key points—in grades 3, 5, 8, 9 and graduation.

“We’re taking a holistic view of what student achievement looks like,” Superintendent Joshua Starr told The Post.
