Tip Leads To Arrest Of Wheaton Woman In Package Thefts: Police

A Wheaton woman is accused by police of stealing packages from the front doors of homes in the Wheaton-Glenmont area.

WHEATON, MD — The Montgomery County Police Department on Wednesday thanked an anonymous tipster who helped detectives track down a woman accused of stealing packages from the front doors of homes in the Wheaton-Glenmont area. In a statement, the police said they've charged Tatiana Baker, 57, of the 12900 block of Camellia Drive in Wheaton-Glenmont, with theft after she was spotted on surveillance video stealing packages.

The following package thefts were reported to police:

  • July 24 at about 6 p.m. – 3900 block of Isbell Street;
  • July 31 at about 5:24 p.m. – 3500 block of May Street;
  • Aug. 26 at about 4:37 p.m. – 1400 block of Billman Lane.

On Sept. 10, police detectives released surveillance photos of the suspect to the public and asked for help in identifying her. The detectives then received a tip that led to the identification of Baker, the police said.

On Wednesday, the detectives obtained a search warrant for Baker’s residence. During the search, they "recovered items of evidence related to these package thefts and located Baker hiding in her home," the police said.

Baker was charged with one count of theft, and detectives are continuing to investigate the thefts and may file additional charges against Baker, the police said.
