Wheaton Rue 21 Clothing Store Closing
Retailer Rue 21, which aims its clothing line at teenage girls, is closing 400 stores nationwide, including one in Wheaton.

WHEATON, MD — The Rue 21 clothing store in Wheaton, which caters to teenage girls, is one of 400 locations the Pennsylvania-based chain has said it plans to close. CBS News says about one-third of the chain's stores will shutter as Rue 21 focuses on its online sales.
The closures will leave Rue 21 with more than 700 stores in 48 states. "It’s true – we are closing some stores," the retailer said on its Facebook page. "It was a difficult but necessary decision. We still have hundreds of locations across the country, and our website rue21.com, open for business."
The chain is reported to be filing for bankruptcy according to a Milwaukee Business Journal report Monday. There was no word from the company on a date for the closings, but its website is promoting store-closing sales.
