11-Year-Old Lowell Girl In Critical Condition After Near Drowning

An 11-year-old girl from Lowell is fighting for her life after being pulled from the Merrimack River in Lowell, says police.

LOWELL, MA — Now at a Boston trauma center after being pulled from the Merrimack River after a good Samaritan saw her struggling Tuesday, an 11-year-old is in critical condition.

Emergency crews and Lowell police responded to the scene near VFW Highway near Aiken Avenue a little after 1 p.m. for a call of a person struggling in the water, as first reported by the Lowell Sun.

Once crews got to the scene, they saw the good Samaritan helping the girl until EMTs got there to perform CPR and other life-saving measures, and eventually med flight her to Boston.

The Sun reports that the girl had initially gone into the water to swim with another young friend but began struggling and it was the good Samaritan who called police to get assistance before jumping in the water to get the girl out.

The friend was able to get themselves out and no other information has been released, according to police.
