3 Dead In Winthrop Shooting, Including Suspected Gunman
State Police said the gunman stole a semi-truck, crashed it into a building and shot two bystanders while trying to escape on foot.
WINTHROP, MA — Three people, including a suspected gunman, died in a shooting Saturday at the intersection of Shirley and Cross street in Winthrop, according to police.
Police were called to the area around 2:40 p.m., after reports of a semi-truck crashing into a building on Veterans Road. Massachusetts State Police said the gunman stole the truck from a plumbing and drain company.
The suspect ran away from the crash on foot and shot two bystanders, State Police said. State Police said they are investigating if one of the victims tried to engage the suspect to end the threat.

Officers found the two victims, a man and a woman, suffering from gunshot wounds, and quickly identified and located the suspect. Winthrop Police Chief Terence Delehanty said officers shot the suspect, and he was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police have not released the identities of the gunman or the two victims.

One police officer was taken to the hospital for an evaluation, but was not seriously injured.
Delehanty said he doesn't believe there is any further danger to the public, but people were asked to avoid the area, while authorities investigate the shooting.
