MA Home To One Of America's Best New Breweries, New List Says

MASSACHUSETTS ? A Massachusetts brewery made a national list of the 10 best new breweries in the country. Hot Plate Brewing Co. in Pittsfield ranked No. 3 on the list from USA Today 10 Best.

The brewery is named after co-founders Sarah Real and Mike Dell?Aquila. In 2017, a code violation at their Brooklyn condo left the pair without heat, hot water, or a functioning stove.

"Rather than abandoning her dream of pursuing a future in craft beer, Sarah started brewing on a literal hot plate, learning more about the process, writing recipes, and completing a commercial brewing training program," according to their website.

Now it's a seven-barrel brewhouse and taproom in downtown Pittsfield. USA Today called it "an excellent third space, and home to stellar beers, coffee and tea, and home-baked goods."

Hot Plate has 12 beers on tap, including, porters, ales, lagers, stouts, and IPAs.

"If you can't choose, get a flight," USA Today says.

The only two ahead of Hot Plate on the list were RAK Brewing Co in Frederick, Maryland, and Frazier Creek Brewing & Distillery Co. in Stuart, Florida, which took the top spot.

The list is devoted to breweries founded in the last three years. A panel of beer experts nominated top picks, then readers selected the winners.
