MA Records Lowest 3-Day Coronavirus Death Total Since March 2020
While positive test rates and hospitalizations remain relatively steady, the three deaths reported make it a 6.7 average over three days.
MASSACHUSETTS — As the number of new coronavirus positive tests and the statewide positive test rate remained fairly steady in Massachusetts in recent days, the state's reported death rate from the virus fell to a 13-month low on Saturday.
The state reported three coronavirus-related deaths Saturday — the third straight day of single-digit deaths. The state reported 20 deaths over the past three days.
It is the first time the state has reported less than 10 deaths because of the virus three days in a row since March 21-23, 2020. The 6.7 three-day average was the lowest since a three-day average of 5.0 March 21-23, 2000. The state recorded a 7.0 three-day average Aug. 3-5, 2020.

The state reported 2,107 positive tests on Saturday with a seven-day positive test average of 2.30 percent. That number is down slightly from the 2.38 percent from Friday and mostly even for the week.
As of Saturday, the state said there were 685 residents hospitalized with COVID-related symptoms, including 178 patients in intensive care and 98 intubated.

While the state's number of cities and towns considered "high risk" for community coronavirus spread rose from 55 to 77 in Thursday's weekly state report, the positive test average, hospitalizations and deaths were all down week over week.
More than 30 percent of new cases reported Saturday (6,375) were among those ages 20 to 29.
