AUBURN, MA — Massachusetts State Police say an officer was attempting a stop after finding expired license plates on a red BMW SUV that actually belonged to a gray Infinity sedan when the driver refused to pull over and instead accelerated at speeds over 100 mph.

As the SUV neared Route 90 and Routes 12 and 290, the trooper stopped the pursuit to prevent more danger to the public, according to a press release.

Shortly after, police reported that the trooper received a radio call that a red SUV was involved in a crash in Auburn. A description of the driver was broadcasted to responding units and multiple police units started their search.
