Acton Community Dog Park

A Win for Dogs, their Owners, and the Entire Town

Did you know that this years’ proposed Capital Budget includes a 10% construction match of $21K, significantly leveraging Town funds to bring an identified need to Acton? By including $21K in this year’s budget, Acton’s Dog Park Committee (ADPC), (formed, overseen, and approved by the Select Board) can completely build and bring a new $250K dog park to Acton. Many neighboring towns have leveraged similar funds to obtain grants from the Stanton Foundation, fully funding dog parks for their towns.

Dog parks benefit everyone – dogs, their owners, and the community as a whole – increasing property values, encouraging socialization and exercise, improving canine behavior, and more. Presentations about the Dog Park on Acton TV – see http://actontv.org/on-demand/government – and at Town Meeting will give you more specifics about the overwhelmingly positive response residents have given to surveys and public events about bringing a dog park to Acton. You will also learn why the chosen site at 348 Main Street is the best location for Acton's dog park and is supported by the Select Board, multiple Town committees, and many Acton residents.

A citizen's petition in this year’s Town Meeting Warrant seeks to block this funding. There is much to learn and hear about their concerns and how the ADPC – and the Town – have worked to address them.

Please find time to view these presentations prior to Town Meeting. The ACDP has spent three well-thought-out, researched and publicized years on this endeavor. Hear why so many Acton citizens have called for bringing a dog park to Acton and see sketches of what it could look like with your support at Acton’s Annual Town Meeting on June 21!
