Acton Goes LED Thanks To Green Communities Grant
The town was able to retrofit and upgrade two municipal buildings with LED lighting thanks to a state grant.
ACTON, MA — Acton is seeing the light — the LED light that is. The town retrofitted and upgraded lights in two of the municipal buildings to LED lights to save energy. The funding for the energy efficient change came from a state grant.
The town utilized it's seventh Green Communities Grant. The upgrades included dimming and occupancy sensor controls to maximize the energy efficiency. It is estimated that the two projects' projected energy and maintenance cost savings will be $12,832, kWh energy reduction 60,773 and a reduction of 76,998 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2).
The grant was split to fund two LED lighting retrofitting projects. Retrofitting at Acton Public Safety and Recreation facilities which used an estimated $54,965 of the grant funds and retrofitting at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School will use the remaining $84,496.

The Green Communities program issued just under $15 million in grants to fund the clean energy projects of 91 different municipalities.
