Acton Kmart Caught In Major National Closures

The Acton location is one of 96 Kmart and Sears stores closing nationwide.

ACTON, MA — Acton's only Kmart store will close it's doors for good soon. The store is just one of the 96 locations across the country being shuttered by Transformco, the parent company of Sears and Kmart. The company announced on Thursday, its plan to

close the stores by February.

The latest round of closures is expected to shutter 51 Sears stores and 45 Kmart location across the nation. In the last 15 years, Sears and Kmart have closed more than 3,500 stores.

Acton's Kmart, at 252 Main Street is one of two Kmart stores closing in Massachusetts. Transformco is also closing two Sears stores in the state. While it's a hard blow for the company, consumers can expect going out of business sales at the stores to start on December 2.

It's not all bad news for the national retailers, though, Transformco also said Thursday that it had secured a $250 million lifeline that should help the company better focus on its "competitive strengths."

Following the closures, Transformco will operate 182 stores.
