ACTON, MA — Acton officials broke ground on the North Acton Fire Station on Monday. The project is expected to be finished in fall 2021.

The North Acton Fire Station will be located at 66-68 Harris Street which is the former Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife office — the town already owns the property. The town had been mulling over the possibility of adding a fire station in North Acton since the 1970s. North Acton generally sees slower response times for fires because other stations are farther than the proposed North Acton station.

In 2019 residents voted to approve the proposal.

The total project is estimated to cost $10,343,376 making the impact on average for a single family residential tax bill to be between $62 and $67 a year for 30 years.

The new station is set to have several energy efficient and sustainable features including being completely electric, with no gas components, along with a "solar-ready roof" and motion-activated LED lighting.
