Acton Stop & Shop Gives Away Reusable Bags Ahead of Plastic Ban

ACTON, MA — Starting in 2020 Acton's new town bylaw goes into effect, banning single-use plastic bags from stores. To help residents adjust to the change, Acton's Stop & Shop is giving away reusable shopping bags on New Year's Day.

The store will give away 300 reusable bags to local customers on a first-come, first served basis, as the ban on single-use, carryout plastic bags goes into effect. Under the bylaw, bags used in stores must be recyclable or reusable.

Acton's Board of Health will oversee the ban. Exceptions to the rule include thin-film plastic bags like those used for dry cleaning, newspapers, produce, meat, and bulk foods.
