ACTON, MA — Acton began its water flushing cycle on Monday morning, beginning with Main Street near Ace Hardware and moving north to Massachusetts Ave., then turning right on Mass. Ave. to Piper Road and then up to Brucewood Road.

The Acton Water District said the process is necessary to improve water quality in the distribution system and to clean out mineral deposits from pipes to prevent water discoloration. While the streets are being flushed, nearby residents might notice some water discoloration or low pressure—the Water District recommends collecting and storing drinking water before flushing begins, and warned not to use discolored water for laundry or dishwashing as it could stain.

Flushing will continue through April, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with the exception of Patriots’ Day on April 19.
