Blackbird Cafe of Acton supports Mt. Calvary Community Supper

Through the generosity of two cafe owners, over 500 meals have been prepared for MCC Supper.

In March, when COVID 19 began to impact Mt. Calvary Community Supper's indoor service at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Acton, it was inevitable that there would be a need to reinvent ourselves so we could continue our mission of helping to alleviate food insecurity and social isolation for our neighbors. Little did we know, though, that what had been an indoor a dinner for 85 people each Wednesday would grow to a steady 170 drive-thru guests in the parking lot. At the same time, the restrictions for COVID food and environment safety and social distancing presented new challenges on increasing food production while decreasing and rotating weekly staffing.

It is through the dedication of so many new and former volunteers that we persevere and it is through the immense generosity of Luke and Katie Kenney that we all breathe a sigh of relief every 4th week of the month when Blackbird Cafe of Acton presents Supper with 170 deliciously grilled cheeseburgers for our meals.

As soon and Katie and Luke read how MCCSupper was continuing its service in the spring, they eagerly asked how they could help us. To have the burgers cooked at Blackbird Cafe is a blessing both in terms of kitchen space and restricted volunteers. Katie and Luke not only offered to help right away but they have continued on. Already they have donated over 500 meals and say they are committed to continue. They are the quintessential neighbors helping neighbors. And on top of that, they are a delightful couple who is enabling all our guests to feel their love each month. We are so blessed to have them walk our path with us in the parking lot at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Thank you Katie and Luke, from the bottom of our hearts. You are amazing. (and the cheeseburger are fantastic - so say all the guests!)
