Richard Burrows Named Acton Police Chief

Burrows has nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience.

ACTON - After four years as Acton's Deputy Police Chief, Richard Burrows was named as the town's police chief on March 12, according to Wicked Local.

Burrows replaces former Chief Francis Widmayer III, who retired in January after 17 years as chief. Burrows brings to the job nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience, including 10 years as deputy chief in Tyngsborough, Wicked Local reports.

Burrows, a Tyngsborough native, has a master's degree in criminal justice from UMass Lowell. After graduating college, he starting working for the Tyngsborough Police Department, staying there for 27 years, starting off as a patrolman until he was named deputy chief in Tyngsborough in 2002.

He was hired by Acton in January 2013.

"If people see me out there, I encourage them to come by and shake my hand and I'll introduce myself to them," Burrows told Wicked Local. "And if they have any concerns they can call me here at the station."
