Congregation Beth Elohim Supports Mt. Calvary Community Supper
Volunteers from CBE help Community Supper fight food insecurity
On Wednesday, June 30th, volunteers from Congregation Beth Elohim in Acton cooked, assembled, and distributed the weekly meal at Mt. Calvary Community Supper. Smiles were in abundance as 175 packaged "to-go" meals containing sandwiches, salads, and dessert were served to Supper guests. CBE has been a dedicated sponsor of Community Supper and the two groups have a long history of working together.
According to Barbara Frank of the CBE Na'aseh Committee, nine years ago she met Community Supper Chairman Mike Tobia and a "genuine relationship was born". Barbara organized the first group of volunteers from CBE to serve at Supper not knowing if she would have enough people for the task. Since that time, they have sponsored and hosted the meal every month containing a 5th Wednesday, drawing from a waiting list of volunteers. When Mike passed away last year following a long battle with cancer, Barbara reached out to her community at CBE asking for donations in honor of his community commitment and to the relationship that has been forged between the two organizations. Congregation members responded enthusiastically and a generous donation totaling more than $3000 was raised through the Alex Young Social Action Fund at CBE.
Mt. Calvary Community Supper extends a heartfelt thank you to their neighbors at Congregation Beth Elohim. The donated money and the ongoing support of Barbara and her volunteers will help Community Supper continue their mission to alleviate food insecurity and social isolation in the Acton/Boxborough area.
