Developer To Pay Acton For Damaging Pearl Street Sugar Maple

The contractor did irreversible damage to the tree's roots and now has to pay to remove the tree, fix the sidewalk and pay a fee to Acton.

ACTON, MA — A developer will have to pay over $3,000 for damaging a sugar maple while installing a new sidewalk.

The Board of Selectmen announced at its Monday night meeting that the developer of the two-unit townhouse at 5 Pearl Street must remove the tree, whose root system was severely damaged.

After hearing from Tree Warden Ryan Hunt, Selectman Dean Charter and a former tree warden, as well as reviewing the report of an independent arborist, the board ordered the developer to remove the tree in its entirety, including the stump.
