Doris Files: Acton Basketball Player, Secretary, Girl Scout Volunteer Dies at 82

She lived in Hudson at the time of her death.

Doris Eleanor (Morse) Files, 82, of Hudson, formerly of Acton and Boxborough, died peacefully with her daughters by her side on Wed. Sept. 3, 2014 at the UMass Healthcare Marlborough Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald L. Files, who died in 1982.

Born in Concord and raised in Acton, she was the daughter of the late George A. Morse Sr. and Viola (Merriam) Morse. She was a graduate of Acton High School, where she was captain of the basketball team, and the Chandler Business School. In early years Mrs. Files was employed as a secretary for manufacturing companies and later worked part-time at Shaw’s. She centered her life around her husband and her daughters’ activities, including volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader. Mrs. Files is remembered for her fun-loving personality. She enjoyed trips to Foxwoods, parties with family and friends, and playing Scrabble, Bingo and cards, especially her Friday night Bridge group.

She is survived by 4 daughters, Debora Schwab of FL, Darlene Taylor of SC, Donna Files of Marlborough, and Diane Terrizzi of NH; a brother George A. Morse, Jr. of Shrewsbury, 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Harry Burton Morse.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours Sun. Sept. 7th from 2-6pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave, (Rte 111) Acton. Funeral services will be held Mon. Sept. 8th at 10:00am the funeral home with Rev. Gareth Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Concord Rd, Acton Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
