New Glass Shop Opening in West Acton

Periwinkle Glassworks plans to open Oct. 29.

Another artisan is making a home in the Village.

Harvard resident Judy Romatelli is opening Periwinkle Glassworks, a combination retail and workshop, this week at 583 Mass Ave in West Acton.

Romatelli plans to share her love of fused and stained glass by selling her wares and teaching others how to create glassworks of their own through in-house classes, workshops and even birthday parties.

“Everybody has that little bit of artist in them,” said Romatelli about opening her place to the public. “Even if they don't think of themselves that way, when you give them the tools to do it, what they end up creating can be pretty amazing.”

Sharing the love of art won't stop with classes and workshops—which you can read about here on the Periwinkle Glassworks website—Romatelli also plans to sublet part of the space to an artist-in-residence for a few months at a time.

Periwinke Glassworks comes to West Acton from Romtaelli's home in Harvard, where she had been using the family dining room as a makeshift workshop. It was there honed her craft working with glass, a hobby and passion she developed years ago after taking a class while out of work with an injury.

“I love the colors,” said Romatelli. “I love how you can express yourself in so many ways. The different colors and textures of the glass can really bring out different emotions in people.”
