Halloween Safety Tips From Acton Police

Acton police are stressing safety be the priority of trick-or-treaters and their parents this halloween.

ACTON, MA —Halloween is right around the corner and as the kids finalize their costumes and trick-or-treating routes, Acton police want you to keep some safety tips in mind. The department suggests a tick-or-treating time of 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

To help spread it's message about holiday safety, the department released a safety video highlighting some key ways kids and chaperones can stay safe while enjoying the night. The video also offered a warning for drivers to either stay off of the roads at that time or to drive slow since thousands of kids will hit the streets, going door-to-door.

The main points for trick-or-treaters included:

  • Stay in a group or with a parent/chaperone
  • Wear reflective clothing or carry a flashlight or glow stick so that your parent can find you and so that you're visible to on-coming cars.
  • Stick to the sidewalks and driveways. Try to avoid walking through lawns as there could be tripping hazards you won't see.
  • Wait until you get home to eat your candy, that way your parents can inspect it.
  • If your costume is long, sew it up or tuck it into your socks so you won't trip.
  • Don't wear masks while walking through the street, it'll make it harder to see.
