Helen Magurn: Local Auto Auction Worker, Proud Grandmother Dies at 92

A funeral was scheduled for Thursday.

Helen (Orpik) Magurn, 92, of Hudson, formerly of Concord and Stow died Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland after a long battle with numerous ailments. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur A. Magurn, Jr. who died in 2003.

Born in Concord on December 15, 1921 she was the daughter of the late Victor and Mary (Melko) Orpik. She attended Concord public schools and graduated from Concord High School in 1939.

She was married in 1943 and lived in Memphis, Tennessee for two years while her husband was in the military.

For many years, prior to her retirement in 1998, Mrs. Magurn worked at the Concord Auto Auction in Acton and the Adesa Auto Auction in Framingham. Previously she was a clerk at the Middlesex Insurance Company in Concord and a sales clerk during the 1960’s at The Children’s Shop in Concord.

She was a long time Concord resident. She lived in Stow for ten years before moving to Hudson in 1987. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Arthur A. “Butch” Magurn III and his wife Nancy of Watertown, her daughter, Patricia Larkin and her husband Geoff of San Antonio, TX, her grandchildren, Arthur A. Magurn IV of Athol, Kristen Masotta of Groton and Jennifer Larkin Sussman of Huntersville, NC, her great grandchildren, Jacqueline and Kevin Magurn of TN, Stephanie and A. J. Proietti of Tyngsboro, Brianna Mosotta of Groton, Kiley and Xander Sussman of Huntersville,

NC, her brother, Stanley Orpik of Concord. She was the sister of the late Silvia Loring, Virginia Gray, Vicki Boudrot, Julius Orpik and Ann Whelden.

Funeral will be held on Thursday, August 14th from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center at 9:30 am followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center at 10:30 am.

Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Concord.

Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday, August 13th from 4 to 8 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans, P. O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301.
