ACTON, MA—Kenneth “Ken” Sundberg Sr., 67 of Acton, MA (formerly Needham, MA), passed away peacefully at home on May 19th, 2016. Ken is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Elizabeth (Desautels), a son, Ken Jr., his wife, Stephanie and their two children; and a daughter, Jessica, her husband, Rui Coelho and their son. In addition to his wife and two children, he is survived by his brother, Robert A. Sundberg Jr. and his wife, Sharon and Ken’s many nephews, nieces and friends. 

Ken has been an Actonian for almost 50 years, where his parents Robert Sr. and Ethel (Cockshaw) settled and where Ken and his brother began their families. Ken was a pillar in the Acton community, who volunteered his time to many committees and sat on different Boards for the Town of Acton. Ken was well known as a Realtor in the Acton area, but has worn many hats in his 67 years. He was an Auxiliary Police Officer, a carpenter, the President of the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce, he owned a Butcher Shop and Restaurant, he owned commercial and residential property in town and he was the first man to be elected President of the Women’s Council of Realtors. He was a basketball and soccer coach to many kids in Town and a cheerleader for everyone who came into his life.

When Ken was not busy working or volunteering his time, he enjoyed golfing, basketball, spending time with his grandchildren and telling his many life stories and jokes. 

Ken was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme Brain Cancer in 2008 and had beaten the odds for over 8 years. Ken was a fighter and never let his medical problems affect his life or the lives around him. He was passionate about Brain Cancer awareness and passionate about doing anything he could to help raise money for Research. Ken will not be remembered as a man who lost his battle with Cancer, but will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who fought for his life every day to keep making memories with his family and friends.

Visiting Hours will be at the Acton Funeral Home Thursday, May 26, from 4-8 p.m. There will be a Memorial Service on Friday, May 27 at 10 a.m. at the Acton Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date.
