Open Door Theater Launches 40th Season with Into the Woods

Open Door Presents Into the Woods March 27 – April 5

Be careful what you wish for! Open Door Theater presents Into the Woods, the award-winning musical twist on beloved fairy tales at the Dragonfly Theater in Acton, March 27 to April 5. Tickets at www.opendoortheater.org.

See the fairytale characters you think you know come to life in Open Door Theater’s Into the Woods, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. Performed over the two weekendsofMarch 27 and April 5, showtimes are 7:00 p.m. Fridays and Saturdaysand 1 p.m. on Sundays, with a sensory-friendly performance (Act One only) on Saturday April 4 at 1 p.m.

Cinderella, Little Red Ridinghood, Jack (and hisbeanstalk), Witch, and Rapunzel encounter each other along with other fairytale characters in the dark woods todiscover what happens after “happyever after.”

“This extraordinary showis about the unexpected consequences of making a wish,” says director Alecia Thomas of Holliston. “With our diverse and talented cast and crew, audiences are going to be delighted by this fast-paced, witty musical that ultimately has a message of acceptance.”

The multi-generational production includes 75 actors ages 9 and up as well as a service dog. Open Door’s inclusive casting features actors who are Deaf, are on the Autism spectrum, have Down’s Syndrome, and possess mobility and cognitive challenges.

“We are one of the only theater groups in the nation to showcase artists with diversity,” says Sam Gould of Boxborough, the president and executive producer of Open Door. “In addition to inclusive casting,we offer a sensory friendly experience, open captioning, live American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, and live audio description at our performances.”

Presented through special arrangement with MTI and with the support of the Acton Boxborough United Way, Astra Foundation, and the cultural councils of Westford, Acton-Boxborough, Littleton, Sudbury and Concord, which in turn are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Performances

Into the Woods will include ASL interpretation at three performances, open captioning at all performances, a Sensory Friendly/relaxed performance, and an audio-described performance.

Friday, April 3rd at 7:00pm
